The last full weekend of November is when college football stops being a sport and becomes a family feud. Rivalry Week delivers the games circled in pencil in August and argued about at Thanksgiving dinner on Thursday. Here are the ten that matter most — and which jersey earns you respect on either sideline.
The ten that define the weekend
- Ohio State vs Michigan (The Game) — the biggest rivalry in the sport. Ten-year wars, broken streaks and a fanbase on each side that measures seasons by this result alone.
- Alabama vs Auburn (The Iron Bowl) — a state split down the middle. When the Kick Six happens here, it becomes instant folklore.
- Texas vs Oklahoma (The Red River Showdown) — the Cotton Bowl split burnt orange and crimson at the 50-yard line, at the Texas State Fair. Peak Americana.
- Georgia vs Florida (The World's Largest Outdoor Cocktail Party) — neutral-site beach-city chaos in Jacksonville, every single year.
- USC vs UCLA — the Los Angeles takeover: one city, two colors, and a crosstown trophy that actually travels.
- Notre Dame vs USC — the intersectional classic, played for the jeweled Shillelagh since 1926.
- Auburn vs Georgia (The Deep South's Oldest Rivalry) — the name is the point: it is literally the oldest rivalry in the South.
- Oregon vs Oregon State (The Civil War) — a whole state picks a side, from Portland to the California line.
- Florida State vs Miami — wide-left, wide-right, and decades of national-title implications between two Florida powers.
- Tennessee vs Vanderbilt — the in-state grudge match that ends the Volunteers' regular season, orange Neyland at full volume.
What to wear on rivalry Saturday
The rule is simple: your colors, their grief. A rivalry jersey is the one piece of fandom that starts conversations in every direction — half the room loves it, the other half came to argue.
